2015-07 White Mountains Trip

July 20 AND 21 A group of 12 Scouts and adults hiked to Greenleaf Hut for an overnight and then onto the famous Lincoln Lafayette ridge line, hiking over the summits of Lafayette, Lincoln and Little Haystack.
The trip was completed with a tough hike down the Falling Waters trail to the Bridle Path trailhead. The group lucked out with super weather as reflected in the photos.

2015-06 Summer Camp

This year we had approximately 22 scouts attend Summer Camp at JNW.  The guys earned over 75 merit badges.  In addition to merit badges, we are proud to say that we had 4 scouts advance in rank while at camp this year.  We also had a couple guys recognized for marksmanship at both the rifle and archery ranges. All merit badges and rank advancements will be awarded at the T146 Kick-Off on 8/29/15.
Big thanks to Mr. Froman, Mr. Dalton, Mr. Cronin and Mr. Hosek for taking time out to be the Adult Leaders for camp this year.  We couldn't do it with out them.
An even bigger thanks goes out to Mrs. Olmstead (AKA: Summer Camp Chief)!  Her attention to detail (and in some cases her persistence in tracking down paperwork from some families!) made check-in a breeze.  We just can't thank her enough.

2015-06 End of Year Awards Ceremony and Farmington River Canoe Run

On June 6th we held our End of Year Awards Ceremony and cookout at Winding Trails in Farmington, CT.  The day was full of frisbee playing, GaGa Ball and swimming before the ceremony.
The guys earned over 50 merit badges and received numerous awards including Outdoorsman of the Year and Scout of the Year.

We regrouped Sunday morning at the bridge on Route 4 where we met the outfitters and put in on the Farmington River for our annual 6.5 mile canoe run.  We enjoyed awesome weather and flat water all the way to the old Sycamore tree in Simsbury.  We had approximately 22 attendees for the event.

2015-05 Gettysburg Heritage Trail

We headed out from WHUMC at approximately 9:00 AM on Friday and headed to Gettysburg, PA to hike the Gettysburg Heritage Trail and visit the Gettysburg National Battlefield.
This year we were fortunate enough to be chosen in the lottery to stay at Macmillan Woods on the battlefield.
Over the course of the weekend, we visited several monuments - including the site of the Gettysburg Address and the David Wills House (where the address was finalized the night before.

 In addition to visiting the battlefield, and visitors center, we had an awesome guided tour by a battlefield historian that provided much information about not only details of the conflict and what led up to it, but some of the aftermath for the local citizenry.  We cooked several meals in camp, but did have lunch on Saturday at the visitor's center and had our obligatory dinner at the General Picket's Buffet before cutting the boys loose in town for a bit of free time.
Saturday night we enjoyed a ghost tour in town before calling it a day and heading back to camp.

 Sunday morning, we trekked around town and had a tour of the David Will's House before heading back home to West Hartford.
